Morocco in Summer: Small Waves, Good Times, and the Best Excuse to Finally Learn to Surf
Let’s be honest about something: summer is not Morocco’s big wave season. The Atlantic swells are smaller, the line-ups are quieter, and the experienced surfers have mostly moved on to chase bigger things elsewhere. And honestly? That’s exactly the point. Because what summer in Taghazout actually offers — warm water, gentle waves, long days, and a village that finally has room to breathe — is something a lot more people are looking for than they realise.
The Waves Are Small.
That’s the Whole Point. From June to September, waves along the Taghazout coast sit between one and four feet. Long, rolling, forgiving. The kind of waves that actually let you learn something — where to position yourself, how to read a set, what it feels like to stand up and ride without immediately getting wiped out. If you’ve been thinking about learning to surf for years but always found an excuse not to, this is your window. Water at 22°C, no thick wetsuit, no intimidating winter crowds, and an instructor who can actually hear you over the waves.
Perfect for a Group Trip
Summer surf in Morocco is genuinely one of the best group holiday formats going. Think about it: a crew of friends, most of whom have never surfed, sharing the same experience from day one. Morning lessons, plenty of laughs in the water, afternoons by the pool or exploring the coast. No one is left behind, no one needs to be an expert. Groups tend to get a lot out of the surf and yoga combination too — early sessions in the water balanced by yoga in the afternoon with our resident instructor Julie. By day three, everyone’s sleeping well and wondering why they don’t do this every year

The Lifestyle Is the Other Half of the Trip
Taghazout in summer runs on its own clock. Mornings belong to the ocean. Afternoons slow down — a walk along the cliffs, a tagine, a mint tea watching the sun drop over the Atlas. The village has a laidback energy that’s hard to find anywhere in Europe in July. And when the week winds down, the vibe picks up. There’s a real social scene around Taghazout on weekends — beach gatherings, music, the kind of spontaneous evenings that happen when a lot of travellers end up in the same place with nothing to rush home for.
What a Summer Week Looks Like
Breakfast, then the ocean. After your surf session, the day is yours — explore the coast, rest, do absolutely nothing, whatever you feel like. Yoga at sunset to wind down, drinks and something to snack on around 7pm, dinner at 8. Then do it all again tomorrow. No fixed programme, no pressure. Just the right amount of structure to make sure the good
parts actually happen.

Surf & Friends Lodge has capacity for up to 44 guests across a range of rooms, with surf lessons, yoga, and our Surf et Stretch package available throughout the summer. Whether you’re coming as a group of friends, a couple, or solo — summer availability is open.
